Seven Beats Nine & Claims Total People Ratings Crown

Seven has claimed the ultimate victory of being the most-watched network of 2022. Seven managed to pip rival network nine and out lapped network 10.

The television ratings end officially at midnight on Saturday, but the major networks are prepared to call wins early. Seven is taking a victory lap and can claim it has won the ratings war for the second year in a row.

As per OzTam’s ratings the survey year has finished, with Seven nabbing 40.7 per cent of the share. Nine grabbed 37.2 per cent of the share, and Network 10 ended at 22.1 per cent of the share.

Though Nine did manage to nail the most-watched television event, which was no surprise was Ash Barty’s win at The Australian Open, it racked up 2,838,000 OzTAM metro viewers.

Regarding demographics, Nine won the 25-54 market, while Seven took out the 16-39 group.

Seven’s chief revenue officer Kurt Burnette is pleased with the results; he said: “It is a highly competitive territory, and we are leading, and we will continue to lead!”

“The important part about winning on total people is that it gives you the platform to win key demos.”

Nine’s director of programming Hamish Turner was clear that Seven did win Total People. However, he quickly pointed out, “If you look at the American system, who wins is based on demos.”

However, Turner still had plenty to brag about. “If you look at our year, we’ve been consistent throughout the year. When advertisers book with Nine, they know campaigns will be delivered. We have shows that have high engagement like Married At First Sight!”
