Youth Broadcaster Triple J Announces Slew Of On-Air Presenter Changes
Public youth broadcaster triple j has announced a string of on-air presenter changes.
triple j Breakfast presenter Ebony Boadu will be wrapping up her time on the show this Friday. Resident electronic and hip hop aficionado, Boadu started out soundtracking Saturday nights on triple j’s House Party before taking over breakfast with Bryce Mills in 2021.
L-R: Ash McGregor, Latifa Tee & Concetta Caristo
Boadu said, “I never pictured myself hosting breakfast radio, but I’m so grateful for all the experiences it’s allowed me to be a part of. From counting down the number one song in the Hottest 100, witnessing iconic Like A Versions every week to sharing my favourite new music with people all over the country. Thank you for waking up with us, making me laugh and sharing in such a formative part of my life. I’ll definitely miss the people but not the 4am alarms.”
The broadcaster has also announces Concetta Caristo as its new triple j Breakfast co-host alongside our Bryce Mills. Caristo has already graced the triple j airwaves multiple times. An extremely talented comedian, improviser and popular podcaster hailing from Eora/Sydney, Caristo is a regular guest on SBS’ Celebrity Letters and Numbers and has made appearances on Channel 10’s The Cheap Seats and ABC’s Question Everything. An outspoken voice on domestic violence, she is the producer and host of ‘I’m Brave & Beautiful’, an annual comedy show fundraiser which raises money for domestic violence support services. Hear Mills and Caristo on triple j Breakfast from December 5.
Caristo said: “I’m absolutely ecstatic to be teaming up with the hilarious and talented Bryce on my dream job of hosting triple j Breakfast! I love connecting with people and I can’t wait to speak to listeners across the country every morning so we can get to know each other by me asking normal everyday questions like ‘do you believe in ghosts?’ and ‘what is your favourite hat?’”
The broadcaster is also bidding a fond farewell to triple j Good Nights host Bridget Hustwaite. Hustwaite cut her teeth on triple j Unearthed on DAB+ hosting TOPS before making her triple j debut on mid dawns. She has made a world of difference to triple j listeners since taking over Good Nights in 2018. Her genuine warmth and passion for music has resonated with artists and listeners nationwide. She has been a welcomed friendly voice night after night, an epic selector for triple j’s Hit List and played a key part in the station’s broadcasts for Splendour, Laneway, One Night Stand and the Hottest 100.
Hustwaite said, “It’s been an absolute dream to be part of both the triple j and triple j Unearthed fam for the past seven years, but I’m ready to spread my wings, take on new opportunities and let another passionate presenter connect with the amazing music fans that tune in every night. Thank you to everyone and anyone who has ever listened and shared their favourite new releases with me. You’ve provided some epic tracks to add to my own playlist and so much joy and comfort to my evenings!”
Latifa Tee will be the new host of Good Nights. You’ll recognise Tee’s impeccable vibes from triple j’s Mix Up and The Nudge. A proud queer, Samoan-GuriNgai woman, the multi-talented DJ/Host/Law Grad will channel her undying passion for music into Good Nights hosting duties in 2023, sharing the hottest new releases, exclusive First Plays and music news from Australia and around the globe.
Tee said, “It’s been such a magical year on Mix Up and now, moving onto Good Nights, I have no words – just a whole lot of humility, gratitude and a lot of work to do. I’m inspired and excited!”
Declan Byrne from triple j’s Home & Hosed will be wrapping up at the end of this year. The all-round legend found his way to triple j in 2013, presenting mid dawns and working with the Unearthed team. He’s had an enormous impact as our Australian music custodian on Home & Hosed since his tenure began in 2018. He’s given countless artists their first spin on triple j, championed the best local music, and his friendly voice has been a staple at the station’s broadcasts for Splendour In The Grass and the Hottest 100.
Byrne said, “Being able to shout about new Australian music for so long has been a ridiculous privilege. If you told the teen working at a pizza place making dough to the sound of triple j that he’d get to host Home & Hosed, present Hottest 100’s, Splendour and everything else, he would’ve been pretty stoked and probably would’ve thrown in a free garlic bread. Thanks for everything, and mostly thanks to the local artists who made my job a total dream. You’re the best!”
Ash McGregor will take the reins of Home & Hosed in 2023. A proud Wadawurrung woman, you might know Ash as triple j’s Breakfast producer. The local music stan is already a much-loved and trusted voice of the station, having guest presented on Unearthed, triple j Breakfast, Drive and Blak Out over the years. We can’t wait for you to hear more from Ash in 2023!
McGregor added, “I’m incredibly excited for this new chapter presenting Home & Hosed, discovering Aussie acts, bringing them to the forefront and sharing their music with the listeners!”
