“Disgrace!” Lisa Wilkinson Slammed For Queen’s Funeral Coverage Over Husband’s Republican Stance

Lisa Wilkinson’s been hit with criticism for being a royal reporter, while her husband Peter FitzSimons is advocating for Australia to become a republic.

Wilkinson is currently in The United Kingdom covering The Queen’s funeral for 10’s The Project. Wilkinson has a long history of covering the royals. She covered the weddings of Prince Willian and Kate Middleton and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Plus, she has extensive experience covering the royals. Hello! She’s from women’s magazines. Basically, it makes sense that 10 Network has sent her over.

Interestingly, Wilkinson’s husband, FitzSimons, is the chair of the Australian Republic movement. He has been outspoken for years on why he thinks Australia should sever ties with the monarchy.

Currently, people on Twitter are slamming Wilkinson and calling her hypocritical for covering The Queen’s funeral because of her husband’s opinions.

But anyone that is critical of Wilkinson is missing a couple of things here. Firstly Wilkinson can cover something without agreeing with it. Just because she knows tons about the royal family doesn’t mean she’s pro the monarchy. It is actually her job to know about the royals.

Secondly, women can disagree with their husbands. Being married to someone doesn’t automatically mean you agree with everything they say or believe in.

I’d also like to point out that I can’t think of a time when a male reporter’s been called a hypocrite because of his wife’s views. Maybe because we assume men can think for themselves but don’t give women that kind of credit.
