Too Soon? Chaser Boys In Strife For Mocking Queen’s Death

Comedy troupe and radio regulars, The Chaser, have wasted no time turning their satirical lens to the Queen’s death overnight. And a lot of people aren’t happy!

The jibes started yesterday when it was announced the Queen was gravely ill and family members were racing to be by her side.

Coinciding with R U OK? Day, the comedy team posted a picture of Her Majesty alongside the caption, “R U OKAY day not going well at the palace”.

They then tweeted: “Warning: The Crown spoilers incoming” to its more than 257,000 followers, referring to the popular Netflix show.

Even when the death was publicly announced at about 3.30am this morning (AEST), there was no let up in the quips.

“The Queen quiet quits,” they declared, referring to the growing trend of employees doing the bare minimum at work.

And it didn’t stop there. The next post revealed: “Queen dies, leader of Australia remains the same” alongside an image of Rupert Murdoch.

It’s unclear what the Chaser fans made of the (admittedly) inappropriate hijinks, however, there was definitely some dissenters in the group who thought it was a little too early to be making gags about the death of the Queen of Australia.

“Ohh little bit bad taste there,” one person tweeted.

“Yeah nah not good. Probs delete,” another agreed.

Another said: “Love you guys, but you’re not reading the room at this point.”

Yet, that appeared more ammunition for the comics

According to its Twitter page, the group sent an “internal memo” to its staff about how to cover the Queen’s death, sarcastically demanding they remain “RESPECTFUL” in their coverage before bringing up past controversies and scandals of the palace and the new king.

“When talking about The Queen’s legacy, don’t focus on the paedophile son that she protected,” the ‘memo’ read.

“Instead perhaps concentrate on all the children she had that were normal and well adjusted (can’t think of any right now, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find some). Edward perhaps? Is he still a thing?”
