Meta Lets You Buy Designer Outfits For Your Avatars To Make You Feel Better About Yourself

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has announced the launch of an online store where people will be able to purchase outfits for their virtual counterparts, with some of the world’s most well-known brands selling their products on the platform.

People will have the opportunity to dress their avatars in outfits designed by Prada, Balenciaga or Thom Browne, among others, only it will cost them a lot less than what it would in the real world.

This way you can still say that you have a wardrobe full of designer outfits and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg!

This new store will be available via Facebook, Messenger and Instagram.

Meta co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and Meta’s VP of fashion partnerships, Eva Chen show off the new digital store as Zuckerberg’s avatar tries on some of the new outfits.

Speaking about this new initiative and the partnership with the designers, Meta’s co-founder Mark Zuckerberg pointed out that soon more brands will become available on the platform.

The new store was announced by Zuckerberg and Meta’s vice-president of fashion partnerships, Eva Chen, in what they described as the “first ever virtual fashion show.”

During the presentation, the Facebook owner “tried on” a number of outfits (virtually), saying he “didn’t think he could pull off” the Balenciaga suit, which posed a striking resemblance to a British college student.

Chen added that people will feel the need to follow this initiative by Meta as these outfits, made by some of the world’s most popular clothing brands, will be a copy of their real-world counterparts, only sold at far lower prices, with a Meta representative pointing out that they will range from $4 to $13 at the date of launch.

Of course, we don’t know yet when Meta plans to launch this store exactly, as Zuckerberg was a bit vague about that, stating only that it’ll happen sometime “soon”. Guess we’ll need to wait a little while before we can dress up our avatars and show off our fancy new outfits to our online friends.
