Nike Could Be Snapping Up Peloton & Stocks Are Already Rising

Rumours have been swirling that sportswear giant Nike could be potentially buying out Peloton – yes, the company that makes the exercise bike that Mr Big used before dying in the Sex And The City reboot.

Peloton has already had a pretty wild start to the year. First, the Sex And The City‘s reboot framed the bike as a killer, then Peloton smartly came out with an ad that featured Chris Noth aka Mr Big that cleverly capitalised on the show’s publicity.

Then Peloton pulled that ad because of the allegations of sexual assault that came out against Noth and now arguably the biggest sportswear giant in the world aka Nike Inc is rumoured to want to buy them out.

Of course, rumours of this buyout come after Yahoo reported that last Friday Peloton’s shares closed at barely above $27. This is a pretty big change from December 2020 when they were priced at &163 – basically, it’s prime time to make an offer.

However, ALJAZEERA has reported that Peloton Interactive Inc’s shares rose 22 per cent after news broke that Nike and Amazon were both considering snapping up the company – not exactly small fry buyers.

The interest caused Peloton’s shares to rise so much it was the best day they’ve had since 2019! According to Forbes, Peloton’s market cap is a whopping $10 Billion but that’s not a huge amount for the likes of Amazon and Nike.

Yahoo reported that marketing firebrand and NYU professor Scott Galloway, said: “It’s no longer a bet-the-ranch acquisition for a firm like Nike.

“Peloton’s incredible shedding of market capitalization makes it an even more attractive target.”

Of course, besides all the publicity from And Just Like That. Pelotons rose in popularity during the pandemic and have really become a phenomenon – they are considered a more chic version of the old fashion treadmill.

So it will be interesting to see if Nike or Amazon buy the company out what they will do next. Perhaps Amazon would offer free delivery?

Still, one thing for sure a Nike tick would look pretty good on a Peloton.
