George Christensen Complains Of “Censorship” As Facebook Removes His Anti-Lockdown Video

Queensland Nationals MP George Christensen has accused Facebook of censoring him, after the social media platform removed a video in which he questioned the efficacy of masks in stopping the spread of Covid.

Speaking in parliament on Tuesday, Christensen argued masks and lockdowns are “don’t work” when it comes to stopping the spread of the virus.

“It’s time we stopped spreading fear and acknowledge some facts,” he said.
“Masks do not work. Fact, it has been proven masks make no significant difference in stopping the spread of COVID-19, lockdowns don’t work.
“Lockdowns don’t destroy the virus, but they do destroy people’s livelihoods and people’s lives.”

The speech caused a stir within the walls of parliament, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison criticising the MP.

“Crazy, rubbish conspiracies have no place when it comes to the public health of this country and this government will have no association with it as we demonstrated yesterday in this House,” Morrison said.

However, Christensen took the step of posting a video of his speech on Facebook.

The social media platform soon took the video down.

“We don’t allow anyone, including elected officials or public figures, to share misinformation about COVID-19 that could lead to imminent physical harm or misinformation that could lead to COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy,” Facebook said in a statement, according to ABC News.

Christensen has since reshared a “censored” version of the video, which removes his comments about masks.

The MP also claimed that his “speech calling for freedom” was “censored on Facebook”.
