Facebook Finds Itself A New Global CMO

Facebook’s search for a new global CMO is over, after the tech giant appointed one of its own to fill the role left by Antonio Lucio in August.

Alex Schultz [feature image], who has previously held the role of vice-president of growth and analytics with the company, has been promoted to head up marketing for Facebook.

“I am super proud to be Facebook’s next CMO. Antonio Lucio has left huge shoes and a great team behind and I’m really excited to get stuck in with them,” Schultz said in a Facebook post.

“You [Lucio] have strengthened our ability to tell meaningful, culturally relevant stories with our family of brands. I hope to build on this and bring my experience in segmentation, targeting, and measurement to bear as we work to reach people more meaningfully through our product.

“I also hope to deepen the strategic impact that Antonio made in focusing on building trust and value across our portfolio of brands.”

With a background in growth and analytics, Schultz is a somewhat unconventional CMO choice for Facebook.

However, Schultz said he believes these skills will serve him well in the new marketing role.

“I have grown up in online marketing and believe deeply in the economic empowerment it can bring, its ability to show people more tailored, relevant, less annoying ads, and the fact it allows us to serve everyone by offering our products for free,” he said.
