Apple Sets Purchase Limit On iPhones

Apple is limiting online purchases of iPhones to two per person, it has been revealed.

Reuters revealed the change last week following checks on the Apple website.

In China, Hong Kong and Taiwan and Singapore a message appears on the website informing users of the purchase limit.

It comes after Apple last week announced it was closing all stores outside of China “until further notice” due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“One of those lessons is that the most effective way to minimize risk of the virus’s transmission is to reduce density and maximize social distance. As rates of new infections continue to grow in other places, we’re taking additional steps to protect our team members and customers,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement.

Apple was one of the first global businesses to feel the pinch of COVID-19.

In February, the company advised investors the global supply of iPhones would be “temporarily constrained“, due to the outbreak of the virus in China.

Apple’s key manufacturing partner Foxconn reopened its factories earlier this month, however the closure through the month of February has clearly impacted Apple’s supply chain.
