Snapchat Partners With WHO To Educate Users On Good Hygiene Practices

Snap – the company behind social media platform Snapchat – is doing its bit to limit the impact of coronavirus.

Like other social media platforms, Snapchat is working to limit the spread of misinformation on the platform.

The fact the Discover content platform is curated means Snap can ensure it only selects the most trusted news organisations from around the world to appear on the platform.

It is also encouraging users to follow the World Health Organisation’s channel.

Snap Inc ANZ general manager Kathryn Carter explained the advantages of Snap’s platform at this time.

“Snapchat is designed differently from traditional media. Instead of having an open feed where unvetted content is able to go viral, we work hard to create a positive environment for our community and ensure Snapchatters have access to credible, fact-based information,” she said.

“Content on our Discover platform is curated and moderated, and we work closely with only a select set of partners, including some of the most trusted news organisations around the world.”

As well as targeting the spread of misinformation, Snap is also working directly with the World Health Organisation to create informative content with the ability of reaching the masses.

The filter includes a custom context card – when the recipient of the Snap swipes up on it, they will be taken to a WHO link with more information.

“By working with public health bodies such as the World Health Organization, we want our community to stay well-informed and safe during this time,” said Carter.

The platform is also working on “edu-taining” users, through a series of health-themed Bitmoji stickers, which now appear as part of the Bitmoji keyboard.
