Domino’s Resurrects ‘Cheers’ (And Norm) In Nostalgic New Spot

For a decade during the 80s, American sitcom Cheers was one of the most watched TV shows around the globe.

For those too young to remember, set in a Boston bar, the show’s premise was the boozer was so friendly “everyone remembers your name”.

One of the bar’s regular boozehounds was the wisecracking Norm Peterson (played by the actor George Wendt).

Now in an odd but fun campaign, pizza chain Domino’s has managed to bring Norm back to life (not that Wendt’s dead) to promote its Pie Pass – a pizza ordering app that identifies the customer on arrival and lets them skip the line.

The spot’s the work of creative agency Crispin Porter Bogusky (CPB) who dredged up hours of old footage of Norm from his Cheers days and the recreated him on a body double to pull off the effect of him ordering a pizza at a Domino’s counter. CPB was also the agency behind Domino’s’ Risky Business spot from early February.
