“Is That A Serious Question?”: Nick Kyrgios Responds To Reporter’s Strange Banana Question

It appears reporters asking Australian Open athletes questions that have nothing to do with the game is becoming somewhat of a trend.

Yesterday, B&T shared a story about a reporter asking Serena Williams about her thoughts on Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to step away from the royal family, and whether she had spoken to Markle.

And now, Nick Kyrgios has suffered the same fate after a reporter asked the tennis star post-match a bizarre banana question.

Following his match, Kyrgios cleaned up the area around his court-side bench, giving away his towels and souvenirs to fans in the crowd. When he ran out of towels, he decided to chuck a banana peel to a fan who was more than willing to accept it.

And yet, Kyrgios was left unamused when a reporter asked him if he did that so the ball kids didn’t have to.

The question was in reference to the anger surrounding a French player asking a ball girl to peel a banana for him on Sunday, before the chair umpire told the player to peel it himself.

Kyrgios responded to the question: “You’ve got to do better than that, bro. Is that a serious question? Oh my god. Next question.”

He also shot down another reporter who questioned him about the lights going out in Melbourne Arena in his second set.

“I won the match in straight sets. I wouldn’t say it was too much of a distraction. The lights just dimmed. What sort of response do you want from me right now.”
