More Redundancies At Macquarie As Nine Continues Its “Aligning”

Macquarie Media’s head of content, Mark Noakes, is the latest casualty in Nine’s restructuring of the radio business.

Overnight Nine announced Noakes would be made redundant via a statement from its newly installed managing director, Tom Malone.

Noakes had been with the network since 2002 and worked across a number of its assets including 2GB, 3AW, 4BC, 6PR.

Malone said: “As a result of aligning the Macquarie sales structure more closely with the Nine sales structure we will continue to focus on maximising our revenue from the direct market whilst developing our agency sales and digital capability. As a result, the role of head of commercial has been made redundant.”

The latest redundancy is a string of departures at the broadcaster since Nine took a 90 per cent stake in the business in early October.

In just the past month, Macquarie’s cleanout has seen the departure of its national executive producer, Michael Thompson and most noticeably, the departure of its CEO, Adam Lang, a month ago.

Exacerbating Macquaire’s off-air woes are its on-air ones. As reported on B&T on Tuesday, star broadcaster Alan Jones’ ad revenues have plunged by half following his unsavoury tirade against the New Zealand prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, back in August.
