Facebook Updates Its VR Offering

Facebook has announced significant updates to its VR offering at Oculus’ OC4 event in California.

The updates include new hardware, software, and content designed to bring even more people into VR and expand the ways people work, play and connect. Highlights include:

  • Oculus Go, an all-in-one wireless headset that will be available in early 2018.
  • New content from partners such as Pixar and Marvel.
  • New developer tools which make it easier to build apps and social experiences across the Oculus platform.
  • New Rift software with the reveal of Dash and Home.
  • A suite of new social features and experiences with Facebook Spaces including Live 360 video in Facebook Spaces.

Will Easton, managing director of Facebook and Instagram for Australia and New Zealand, said: “We’ve seen activity on Facebook evolve from text-only through photographs, video, and Live. VR and AR are natural extensions to this.

“Oculus is available now in Australia, and we are excited that we will be bringing more world class hardware, software and content to Australia.

“Connecting through VR is an amazing, immersive experience, and we want to do our part to make sure more people have a chance to experience it and expand the ways we work, play and connect in the future.”
