It’s Zoo Weekly Getting Pulled Off As The Weeklies Continue To Do It Tough

Practically all of Australia’s weekly glossy magazines are down in the latest ABC figures released this morning, with embattled lads’ mag, ZOO Weekly, being pulled from the audit altogether.

It’s not exactly clear why publisher Bauer decided to pull its men’s title – which posted just over 24,000 copy sales in the last audit – but it follows the publisher’s decision to also recently remove Picture and People from the audit.

With plummeting circulation and renewed controversy, it’s now believed the English-licensed title is in its final death throes.

The rest of the weeklies in the market – all aimed at female audiences – declined. However, Bauer’s recently released Yours – a bi-weekly aimed at 50-plus women – went up 619 copies to 62,027.

In the battle of the two heavyweights of the category between Woman’s Day and New Idea, the Bauer-owned Woman’s Day remained on top with 307,126; although that represented a drop of just over 23,000 in the six months. New Idea lost 15,000 sales and fell to 267,588.

The biggest loser in the women’s weekly glossy category was Bauer’s NW which shed 14.7 per cent of its readers, falling to just shy of 70,000. Rival Famous fell 5000 copes to 60,038. Pacific’s Who also took a kicking, falling 10 per cent to 101,077.

OK fell two per cent to 70,757, Take 5 fell ever so slightly to 164,687, while the venerable organ for all things television, TV Week, hung in there posting 139,434; a drop of five per cent.
