South Australian tech startup Punt Club is weighing up its options after accusing betting giant Sportsbet of taking its tagline.

The dispute centres around the ‘Bet With Mates’ slogan, which Sportsbet has been using to promote its new group betting product.

Sportsbet first launched Bet With Mates in June.

Punt Club, which has been used to manage punting clubs since 2015, claims it has been using this line since day one.

“The simple fact is Punt Club has been using ‘Bet with Your Mates’ as its tagline since we launched. These guys spend around $100 million a year in advertising to swat innovators like Punt Club and the tagline that’s been used for over six years out of the way,” said Punt Club’s founder Jason Neave.

“We’re all for healthy competition and there’s nothing stopping them from launching a competing product, but to do it with ‘Bet With Mates’ as their product name, is taking the piss.”

In a media release, Punt Club confirmed it is considering legal action.

It’s not the first time the two companies have found themselves embroiled in a dispute.

Punt Club has previously accused Sports Bet of “business espionage” over the launch of a similar product in 2015. The matter was settled outside of court.

B&T has contacted Sportsbet for comment.
