Sydneysiders are being reminded to remain waterwise in a new series of Sydney Water ads by Clemenger BBDO Sydney.

These are the first pieces of work Sydney Water and the agency have created together.

The ‘Turn if off, Bob’ campaign features award-winning Australian actor and conservationist, Shane Jacobson as Bob.

The debut spot, in what will become an episodic series, introduces an unwitting Bob enjoying a very long, hot shower. That is, until his water-wasting ways get the better of him. Future spots will launch at the start of spring and during The Ashes cricket series in January 2022.

The campaign launched last week across TV, OOH, digital and social channels and the online reaction has been incredibly positive. Viewers will meet more of Bob’s family and friends as the series rolls out throughout spring and summer.

“We’ve had great success in reducing water consumption through education campaigns that traditionally run during the hotter summer months. This campaign highlights that it’s the behaviours we adopt all year round that ultimately help us keep water in our dams in periods of low rainfall,” said Maryanne Graham, general manager, customer, strategy and engagement at Sydney Water.

“Just one drop of water per second dripping from a shower or tap, adds up to 7,000 litres of water each year, so shaving a minute off your shower can help us save millions of litres each year.”

“It’s a win-win-win – we save water, our customers save money and we keep water in our dams for when our customers need it most.”

“Shane’s passion for water and his tremendous ability to cut through are a great match for Sydney Water. Our customers have told us they want to know more about how they can save water and this campaign is all about doing just that,” she said.

Clemenger BBDO Sydney executive creative director, Brendan Willenberg added, “We needed a way to remind Sydneysiders to think twice and be water wise.”

“Bob is a ripping character to deliver this message in a tongue-in-cheek way and Shane is just perfect for the role given his incredible personal commitment to water conservation. There’s lots more of Bob and his handy waterwise hints coming this year, we can’t wait to share it.”
