Simpsons Fans Left Guessing As Moe’s Tavern Cops A PC Makeover After 33 Years

When not spookily predicting the future, it seems mega long-running cartoon The Simpsons is now busy corrected its sins of the past.

In 2021, the show had to apologise for its “racist” portrayal of Kwik-E-Mart owner Apu Nahasapeemapetilon following criticism it perpetuated stereotypes of Indian immigrants in the US.

Now Springfield’s favourite bar, Moe’s Tavern, has been forced to undergo some major changes given current sensibilities. And, no, that appears to have nothing to do with excessive drinking or the serving of intoxicated patrons.

The latest episode, called ‘Pin Gal’, just aired in the US and Simpsons‘ screenwriter Al Jean took to Twitter to see if anyone could guess what had been remodelled (or removed, in this instance) at Moe’s.

There was even an offer of a prize to anyone who could correctly guess it.

Jean posted: “And… something is missing, that’s been on for 33 seasons. First person to guess correctly wins season three dvd.”

Fans then came back with answers that ranged from “the TV” to “the cash register”.

Jean then revealed the correct answer – the cigarette machine had disappeared! And probably most fans of the show wouldn’t be too disappointed to see it go either.
