Elon Musk, Twitter’s embattled chief exec, wants to make the social platform’s advertising more engaging and entertaining.
The South African businessman shared some slides he used at an internal Twitter meaning and showed that he wants to develop a more engaging form of advertising.

The single slide on advertising as entertainment showed a phone wireframe with a tweet from HBO Latin America asking users to ‘like’ the tweet in order to get their profiles analysed so they can find out what house and role they would have in the ‘House of the Dragon’ TV series.
Oddly, there is no identifier on the screenshot that the content is an advert or had been paid-for, which would see it fall foul to many advertising rulesets around the world.
Musk’s slides also showed that he would relaunch Twitter Blue, again, with the paid verification service offering users the chance to see half the ads soon. It’s unclear whether advertisers will be taken with the idea that users can simply pay not to see their ads, while they are working harder to produce more engaging and entertaining adverts.
Musk also tweeted a blank slide referencing a new payments system. This is something Musk has talked about before, and believes it critical for creating an ‘everything’ app which could be similar to China’s WeChat. However, as this is completely new ground for Twitter, it remains to be seen whether his skeleton crew can pull it off.
