A cranky British man has made the headlines after he savaged an ice-cream vendor on Facebook for slugging him £10 ($A18.30) for two ice-creams with a Flake.

Apparently the high cost of the ice confection treat is due to the current heatwave in the UK (temperatures topping 27 degrees in places) that’s led to people overwhelming their Mr Whippy vans and creating an alarming nationwide Flake shortage.

As reported on Stroke On Tent Live, the angry customer took to social media, slamming the “greedy” ice-cream van salesman for allegedly profiteering from the disastrous Flake shortage.

The man in question was enjoying a day out at the picturesque North Staffordshire when he was stung by the ice confection vendor.

Taking to social media, he wrote: “The first and last time I pay £10 for two 99s [what the Brits call an ice-cream with a Flake]. I know there’s a Flake shortage but come the fuck on!”

Since his outburst, the Mr Whippy van man had reached out to the angry customer who, in turn, has updated his Facebook post to reflect the comments.

He said: “I received an apology and assurances that pricing will now be clear on the vans. Hopefully, no one will be ‘price ambushed’ moving forward.”

Without 99 flakes, what is the point of summer? We might as well stay in lockdown until they’re back. #FlakeShortage pic.twitter.com/KJyoLoc3vT

However, the incident appears to have divided the internet with some siding with the customer while others suggesting he got what he deserved.

It was agreed that £2.50 should be the standard price for a cone and anything above that and you were paying “London prices” – a reference to the country’s notably expensive capital.

“Must be golden ones for that price,” one person said, while others branded it “daylight robbery”.

Others blamed the customer for forking out the tenner in the first place.

“You either pay or walk away. Your choice. Don’t pay and then complain,” one wrote.

“More fool you for paying it. Ask the price, if too much walk away, watch the faces when you do it,” said another.

While another wag added: “Without 99 Flakes, what is the point of summer? We might as well stay in lockdown until they’re back.”
