The iPad love affair continues

Aussies’ love affair with the iPad is showing no signs of waning, with competitor Samsung struggling to get much of a look-in, according to new research.

A study by community technology company Vision Critical has found that the Apple iPad dominates the market. Of 1,000 people surveyed who own or have access to a tablet, 77% own an iPad, compared with 11% who own a Samsung Galaxy.

Just 5% of Galaxy tablet owners have had their device for more than a year, compared to 86% of iPad owners.

But 24% of Galaxy owners have had their device for less than six months, compared to 58% of iPad owners – suggesting that Samsung is gaining ground.

iPad owners are also happier with their devices, with 91% of them stating they are satisfied with their tablet, compared to 81% of Samsung owners.

The report concludes: “It will be interesting to see the future direction of consumer interest and use of tablets. With younger Gen Ys spoken of anecdotally as more highly connected and media savvy, it is most interesting to note that it is under 25s who are more likely than any other age group to prefer using two devices (a PC and a smartphone) rather than three (a PC, a tablet and a smartphone).”
