Radio ad revenue grows again

Metropolitan radio has posted its seventh consecutive month of advertising revenue growth as the Melbourne market continues to steam ahead.

Total ad spend for August 2013 is up 5.64% to $61.169m on August last year, according to Commercial Radio Australia’s (CRA) Deloitte figures.

Melbourne again posted the largest amount of growth, up 10.15% to $18.05m, in a month where no market declined.

Perth grew by 8.03% to $8.482m, Adelaide rose by 5.57% to $5.728 million and Brisbane reached $9.206 million following growth of 0.86%.

The largest metro radio market, Sydney, grew by 2.83% to reach $18.948m.

All five metro markets are also up in the first two months of the 2014 financial year.

Melbourne was again the market to post the largest jump, hitting $36.698m after a leap of 12.08% while Sydney increased by 4.96% to $36.953m.

Perth is up 7.12% to $15.866m, Adelaide is up 6.93% to $10.829m and Brisbane has grown 2.88% to $17.867m.

Joan Warner, chief executive of CRA, said: “Metropolitan commercial radio has achieved positive revenue growth for the last seven months with the Federal election contributing to an excellent August result.”
