GroupM’s Wavemaker Retains Mondelez & Vodafone Accounts

It’s been a top day for GroupM’s Wavemaker after the agency retained both the Mondelez and Vodafone businesses.

Mondelez – makers of iconic FMCG brands such as Cadbury, Oreo and Philadelphia – spend about $50 million a year annually in Australia.

Wavemaker has held the account in Australia for the past two years after nabbing it away from stablemate Mindshare.

In a global review, Mondelez has just split its $US1.6 billion ($A2.3 billion) media account between three agencies – Publicis Groupe, Wavemaker and Vayner Media.

Wavemaker CEO Peter Vogel telling B&T: “Wavemaker are incredibly proud and excited to continue our partnership with Mondelez in Australia. We look forward to building on our partnership and continuing to drive growth for their brands by developing engaging consumer experiences.”

Meanwhile, the agency has also retained the Vodafone business and that’s despite a global pitch that saw incumbent, dentsu’s Carat, retain the work.

Carat will handle the telco’s media in 15 markets, however, as the brand is owned by TPG here in Australia it was not impacted by the global pitch. Vodafone have a reported 5.25 million mobile customers in Australia and boasts a broadband base of 2.17 million customers.
