ABC’s Fauziah Ibrahim Gets Benched From Weekend Breakfast After Twitter Scandal

Journalist Fauziah Ibrahim is taking a break from her on-air role on ABC’s Weekend Breakfast after a Twitter scandal has broken out.

Ibrahim has been facing criticism after two lists were made public from her personal Twitter account. She’d created two lists that she put users in.

One was called, “Labour Trolls/Thugs” and the other, “Lobotomised Sh#theads!”

Basically, instead of just blocking people she put them in lists – which is a choice.

Interestingly the accounts in the lists didn’t belong to anyone high profile but were more average users that were political on Twitter – and assumedly did something for her to label them as ‘thugs’ or ‘sh#theads.’

Naturally, Ibrahim is now being hit with a lot of criticism and the bulk stems from the idea that basically she’s shown her bias towards the labour party.

The lists being made public also seemed to trigger the hashtag #ABCyourbiasisshowing then trended on Twitter.

Interestingly, Ibrahim then didn’t appear in her usual gig on ABC’s Weekend Breakfast.

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that the ABC updated its guidelines for its employees’ social media use last year and stated, “remaining impartial in the public eye is crucial to maintaining effectiveness.”

So it will be interesting to see what happens with this.
