Karl Stefanovic Jokingly Storms Off Today Show After Being Fat-Shamed

Today’s Karl Stefanovic jokingly stormed off from the morning show after being fat-shammed.

It all kicked off when Alison Langdon and Stefanovic discussed the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial. Depp’s sister testified that she’d overheard Heard refer to Depp as, “fat and old!”

Stefanovic then said, “Being called a fat old man is like.”

But before he could finish his sentence, Langon said,  “You’re not old?” Then waited for a beat and added, “or fat!”

However, the damage was already done. Stefanovic yelled, “She’s fat-shaming! She’s fat-shaming again, Australia. I’m going on a diet!”

Stefanovic then marched offset and took comfort in Nine’s publicist, Adrian Motte and said, “It’s disgusting, isn’t it!” Motte laughed it off. – presumed his mind was racing, imagining the Daily Mail headlines that would stem from the stunt.

Stefanovic said: “I really try; my feelings get hurt,” and then he just pranced off.

Langdon was left on the set to defend herself where she said, “I said all of them! Old or fat! He’s so sensitive. I just called him thin, handsome, and young. That’s what I just said.”

It seemed pretty clear that Stefanovic was taking the piss, but it also made great television, and perhaps that’s the magic of Karl!

A spokesman from Nine confirmed to B&T that it, “Was obviously a light-hearted moment!”
