Medical Experts Call For Spotify To Stop Joe Rogan From Spreading Misinformation
An open letter that has been signed by hundreds of doctors is calling for Spotify to implement a misinformation policy because of Joe Rogan’s very popular podcast – only in 2022.
The open letter shared via WordPress reads: “We are a coalition of scientists, medical professionals, professors, and science communicators spanning a wide range of fields such as microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, and neuroscience and we are calling on Spotify to take action against the mass-misinformation events which continue to occur on its platform.
“With an estimated 11 million listeners per episode, JRE is the world’s largest podcast and has tremendous influence. Though Spotify has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform, the company presently has no misinformation policy.”
So why are medical experts so upset with Rogan?
Well, Rogan is basically a podcast king. He has millions of listeners, is rumoured to have signed a 100 million dollar deal with Spotify.
He is also able to get everyone from Elon Musk to Miley Cyrus on his podcast.
There is just no denying people really listen and care about what he has to say and he has had some interesting things to say about the pandemic.
Allegedly he hasn’t had a COVID-19 vaccination and he has also been sharing his own beliefs about how best to fight the infections disease via his podcast that is streamed through Spotify.
Politico reported, Rogan said: “If you’re like 21 years old and you say to me, ‘Should I get vaccinated? I’ll go, no.
“If you’re a healthy person and you’re exercising all the time and you’re young and you’re eating well, I don’t think you need to worry about this.”
Basically, all the medical experts are asking for is for Spotify to take some responsibility for Rogan’s words. They aren’t asking for Spotify to stop hosting Rogan’s podcast or take down any episodes. They simply want the streaming service to provide. some way of dealing with misinformation so listeners aren’t led astray.
Spotify has yet to respond.
