Koala Reminds Customers Of The Perils Of In-Store Shopping In Cheeky “Freedom” Campaign

As large parts of Australia emerge from lockdown, direct to-consumer mattress and furniture brand Koala, best known for their tongue-in cheek advertising, is at it again with a timely message.

As we venture out in droves to make the most of eased restrictions, Koala’s ‘freedom’ campaign takes a swipe at their Supercentre rivals, warning Aussies that shopping in-store is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Disguised as your typical lost pet posters, a series of messages aiming to intercept wayward shoppers have been scattered across social and multiple physical locations in Greater Sydney.

Even going as far as being parked directly out the front of competitor stores. No stranger to ruffling a few feathers, through these messages Koala aims to let people know there’s an easier, more pain-free way to shop for incredible furniture.

VP of Global Brand Strategy and Creative Bradley Firth said: “Like the rest of Australia, our team has dealt with the challenges of lockdown. We wanted to take the chance to remind everyone that there are more important things to be doing with our freedom than wasting precious hours stuck in terrible retail supacenters. Especially when we at Koala make it so easy – with our award-winning range of online furniture, available with a no risk 120 night trial and fast and free delivery.”

By bringing back repressed memories of overcrowded shopping centres, toddler tantrums in the aisle and the panic of trying to locate your car on the seemingly identical carpark levels, Koala is (not so) gently reminding shoppers that these are not activities we’ve been missing.

The OOH are live today at the following locations:
