Adele Covers Both US & British Vogue For November In Magazine First!
Both British Vogue and American Vogue debuted their November issues with singer Adele gracing both covers. For the first time in fashion elite history, British vogue and American vogue shared a cover star.
While Vogue magazines worldwide don’t usually share cover stars, assumedly they probably go out of their way not to but – it’s Adele, so it somehow makes sense.
If it was anyone else, admittedly, I might be scratching my head, but Adele is in the throes of gearing up to release a new album and a return to the public, after a five-year absence. In the last five years, Adele has rarely been seen and although she’s remained culturally relevant, she’s also been a mystery.
Her appearance on both Vogues marks her return to the spotlight. This last half of a decade has also been filled with change, Adele got divorced, lost weight and has reappeared only recently with a new and high-profile boyfriend, Rich Paul. All these changes sent the media into overdrive, but Adele never addressed them.
On British Vogue, Adele wears a custom-made corset dress by Vivienne Westwood and a Tiffany and Co sparkling brooch. Her hair is so beautifully blowed-dry, it’s almost like a work of art. For American Vogue aka Vogue Magazine, Adele is styled by Tonne Goodman and is in a huge and beautiful emerald gown. While both covers are drastically different, they both give off the same vibe, Adele has come into her own power and she’s owning it.
There’s a lot to talk about, easily two magazines worth of ‘talking,’ and for years, the public and media have only been guessing the answers.
In both Vogues, Adele did not disappoint or play coy, she opened up about it all.
Adele spoke to British Vogue, about her weight loss, “They’re used to people documenting everything on Instagram. I did it for myself and not anyone else. So why would I ever share it? I don’t find it fascinating. It’s my body.”
She expanded on this for Vogue Magazine, Adele said: “My body’s been objectified my entire career. It’s not just now. I understand why it’s a shock. I understand why some women especially were hurt. Visually I represented a lot of women. But I’m still the same person.
“The worst part of the whole thing: The most brutal conversations were being had by other women about my body. I was very disappointed with that. That hurt my feelings.”
Adele also spoke with both Vogues about her divorce, from Simon Konecki, the father of her son. Something she has been incredibly private about. While Adele explains they are on good terms, she doesn’t shy away from the pain of a marriage breakdown.
The singer told Vogue Magazine, “(The divorce went) as smoothly as a divorce can.”
Adele also opened to British Vogue, “It just wasn’t… It just wasn’t right for me anymore. I didn’t want to end up like a lot of other people I knew. I wasn’t miserable but I would have been miserable had I not put myself first. But, yeah, nothing bad happened or anything like that.”
Perhaps most excitedly the singer, who gave us power ballads like, Someone Like You and Hello, also opened about her new album, which is expected to land in November.
Adele told British Vogue, “I feel like this album is self-destruction, then self-reflection and then sort of self-redemption. But I feel ready. I really want people to hear my side of the story this time.”
Adele told Vogue Magazine, “I realized that I was the problem, cause all the other albums are like, you did this! you did that! Why can’t you arrive for me?
“Then I was like: Oh, shit, I’m the running theme, actually. Maybe it’s me!”
