One Shot At Love: Anti-Vax Dating App Kicked Off Apple’s App Store

Bangkok. Thailand - March 12, 2016: Close-up of the App Store application icon on the screen of the iPhone 6.

A dating app connecting like-minded and looking-for-love anti-vaxxers has been kicked off Apple’s app store.

Unjected was launched earlier this year as a “safe space for the unvaccinated to come together uncensored through business, friendship, or love”.

Much like Tinder or Bumble, users can set up a profile and match and message with other members. According to Bloomberg, the app has already garnered over 18,000 downloads.

There is also a ‘social feed’, where users are free to share their claims about the use of vaccines.

However, given the app sets out to match anti-vaxxers, it is no surprise that the dating site has been a beacon of misinformation on vaccines and the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, Apple this week made the decision to remove the app from its App Store, suggesting Unjected  “inappropriately refers to the Covid-19 pandemic in its concept or theme”.

The app is still available to download from Google Play, as of Monday evening.

According to Gizmodo, Unjected removed the social feed feature prior to Apple announcing the ban.

But Unjected is seemingly determined to continue offering its community members a shot (pun intended) at anti-vax love.

Taking to its official Instagram page – which appears to have since been deleted – Unjected said it is working on ways to return to the App Store.

“We are looking into ways to get off of Apple and Google,” the company said, according to Business Insider. “But the easiest transition for us might be to make the website as great as possible since they can’t shut that down like the app.”

The app was created in May this year in response to popular dating sites such as Tinder and Bumble introducing features which encourage users to get vaccinated.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Unjected co-founder Shelby Thomson defended the app.

“We’re not trying to be harmful to society,” said Thomson. “We just want to exercise our freedom of choice.”
