Woolworths has begun the rollout of its latest tech innovation in South Australia, introducing Scan&Go in two stores in Adelaide.

The tech is currently available in 31 stores across the country, including stores in NSW -where it was first introduced in 2018 – Vic, the ACT and WA.

Scan&Go is essentially designed to save queue time. As you shop, you scan product barcodes with the Wooloworths app. The app works with a ‘smart product scale’ for any items priced by weight.

You can then pay using the same app, which will generate a QR code for you. You then scan that QR at a Scan&Go exit point to finish the shop.

According to Woolies, you have a one in 20 chance of being selected for a bag check, which according to their site is to “ensure our new technology is operating correctly and you aren’t being charged incorrectly.”

To use Scan&Go, you need to be a Woolworths Rewards member. Scan&Go also automatically applies Everyday Rewards points.

Ben Garvan, the head of digital in-store for the brand, told news.com.au that: “We know many of our customers are short on time, and the speed and convenience of Scan&Go has been popular with many shoppers across Australia for this reason.”

“In addition to the time saving, Scan&Go allows customers to closely track their spend as they shop, which is helpful for budgeting.”
