Chrissy Teigen Leaves Netflix Show Amid Bullying Allegations
Model and one time social media darling Chrissy Teigen has exited a scheduled performance in Mindy Kaling’s Netflix show Never Have I Ever.
Recent weeks have seen Teigen caught amid multiple bullying allegations after old tweets directed at Courtney Stodden resurfaced.
Never Have I Ever features narration from celebrities, with Teigen originally scheduled for a voice-over role in season two. Now, it will be recast.
The bullying allegations first arose when Courtney Stoddard did an interview with publications The Daily Beast, where they detailed both public Tweets and direct messages sent by Teigen.
In the interview, they said, “she wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself.”
Stoddard first rose to fame when, as a teenager, they married actor Doug Hutchinson.
While the DMs have not been confirmed, Buzzfeed and TMZ published screenshots of now deleted tweets from 2011 to 2013.
They include Teigen tweeting Stodden with messages such as “my Friday fantasy: you. dirt nap. mmmmmm baby” and “what drug makes you di that with yout mouth? asking for a friend who really want to know how to look like an idiot. thanks.”
Teigen has apologised for the tweets, saying, “not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bulls–t in front of the entire world.”
“I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention-seeking troll.”
“I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I’m so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am. And I am so sorry I let you guys down. I will forever work on being better than I was 10 years ago, 1 year ago, 6 months ago.”
On Instagram, Stodden wrote that, “I accept her apology and forgive her. But the truth remains the same, I have never heard from her or her camp in private. In fact, she blocked me on Twitter.”
“All of me wants to believe this is a sincere apology, but it feels like a public attempt to save her partnerships with Target and other brands who are realizing her ‘wokeness’ is a broken record.”
Teigen has not tweeted since the bullying allegations, and has reportedly lost her partnerships with Target and Bloomingdale’s.
