Burger King Skewers Pandemic Life In ‘Confusing Times’ Spot Via David Miami

In what looks and sounds like a deadpan but borderline morbid public service announcement, Burger King has launched its Impossible Whopper, in a new commercial via David Miami.

Meditating on some of the oddities of everyday, developed-world problems during the coronavirus pandemic, ‘Confusing Times’ recalls just how strange life has been over the past year.

A booming, male voice narrates the commercial and draws attention to some of these oddities.

On working from home: Is it really working from home or living at work?

On dating apps: Are we more interested in dating people’s online presences instead of actual people?

And should I really be sneezing into my elbow if I’m meant to bump elbows when I greet someone?

These are confusing times, indeed. And intermingled with the meditations are deadpan, much needed ironies.

“Dustin bought a book on climate change—but it’s shipped from England, by plane, wrapped in plastic. Now he’s confused,” the narrator says, as Dustin tears it to shreds while a dog watches.

In another instance, the narrator adds that, “Trudy wants to go to the office but she also needs to work in pyjamas.”

They’re questions you wouldn’t expect to, or even want to, ask yourself after watching an ad ultimately made to sell vegan burgers.

But alas David Miami (the agency that marketed a preservative-free future with a mouldy Whopper) has again pulled off the impossible to launch the Impossible Whopper, in another fantastic commercial for Burger King.
