NRL Player Formally Warned For “Offensive And Derogatory” Post-Match Interview

Cronulla Sharks’s forward Toby Rudolf has been warned by the NRL for “offensive and derogatory” comments that he made in a post-match interview following his side’s victory over the Dragons on Sunday.

During a live interview with Foxtel’s Matty Johns ShowRudolf was asked how he planned to celebrate the win.

“Probably about a thousand beers,” Rudolf said. “Go to Northies [a popular bar in Cronulla], try an pull something. Anything will do.”

He soon corrected himself and said he planned on spending the evening in an ice bath.

And while the comments were met with laughs from the panelists of the Matty Johns Showthe NRL has since stepped in and labeled the comments inappropriate.

“I was very disappointed with Toby’s comments, they were inappropriate and should not have been said,” NRL CEO Andrew Abdo told AAP.

“We are going to issue Toby with a formal warning and I know the club are going to counsel him so there is not a repeat.

“Respect for women is one of the foundations of our society and our players, as role models, need to be leaders in this area.”

The Cronulla Sharks are expected to offer the young player additional education.
