“The 1961 Ferrari 250GT California!” Oh, Yeah! Someone’s Recreated The Iconic Scene From ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’
If you’ve never seen the 1986 classic coming-of-age comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, B&T has to ask what rock you’ve been living under. So, if you haven’t, this article will make no sense whatsoever. But if you have, get set for a massive nostalgia road trip via this cool new piece of creative.
The ad’s for Liftmaster Secure View, which appears to be an in-garage security system designed to help rich people keep an eye on their expensive motors.
The ad recreates the iconic scene where Ferris decides to take Cameron’s father’s 1961 Ferrari 250GT California for a spin.
However, in the 2020 version, the Ferrari (for some unexplained reason) has been replaced with a 1966 E-Type Jaguar.
Even better, the actor that played the original Cameron – Alan Ruck – even gets wheeled out to, ironically, have the last laugh.
The spot’s the work of Los Angeles creative agency Schafer Condon Carter who re-built the garage in a studio and used a green screen for the visual details.
Get set to hark back to your misspent youth here:
And relive the original scene here:
Commenting on the work, Schafer Condon Carter ECD Denny Hebson told creative site Muse: “We sent Alan the storyboard and he liked it right away. Otherwise we would be talking to you about a commercial with some other iconic garage in it. Alan Ruck is the key to making this spot work, so we were thrilled when he agreed to do it.
“While we tried to stay as faithful to the film as possible—the music, the shot angles, the lighting, the look of the garage itself—there are a few details that changed, The boys’ clothes are updated for today. The garage door opens differently,” Hebson said.
