Sunday TV Wrap: MasterChef Proves The Dish Of The Night, As The Voice Finale Hits A Bum Note

Nine’s The Voice has wrapped up for another year and it too appears a victim of COVID-19.

With judges Boy George and Kelly Rowlands having to be beamed in from overseas due to the pandemic, the talent show posted its worst finale numbers since launch back in 2012.

It also courted some controversy after one of the judges, Guy Sebastian’s brother, Chris (main photo), won the competition.

Last night’s grand finale could only muster 911,000 viewers and then strangely dipped to 871,000 for the winner announcement.

That left MasterChef with the bragging rights, last night’s semi-final pulled 1.151 million according to OzTAM metro numbers.

Seven’s decision to rest Big Brother on Sundays for its Murder In The Outback series has proven an astute move, it pulled 961,000 last night.

It also got Seven over the line for a Sunday evening win. The network pulled 29.2 per cent of last night’s eyeballs (all channels). Nine wasn’t far behind with 27.5 per cent, 10 did 22.1 per cent, the ABC had 14.7 per cent and that left SBS with a measly 6.5 per cent.

Seven’s 6pm news did big numbers, posting 1.341 million. Nine’s version did 1.172 million while 60 Minutes’ up-and-down numbers were down, it managed 561,000.

When it came to the footy, Seven’s AFL did 412,000 to the Nine’s NRL coverage which had 265,000.

Other tryers for 10 included The Project (597,000) and 10 News First (312,000).

The ABC’s evening ran thus: 7pm news (747,000), Vera (597,000) and Grand Designs Revisited (435,000).
