Study: Female CMO Salaries Topped Male Counterparts In 2019

In both good and perhaps surprising news, female CMOs are on the rise across the globe, with a new study from the CMO Council finding female marketing execs reported higher pay than men in 2019.

The study found female CMO salaries were on average $US213,000 ($AU308,000), while men earned an average of $US210,000 ($AU304,000).

While only a marginal difference, it perhaps signifies progress in diversity, inclusion and equality in the industry is finally taking place.

The higher pay for female CMOs could also reflect the increasing number of women working in marketing roles in larger companies.

The CMO Council noted in its study that large companies are more likely to have performance-based compensation that includes year-end bonuses. The study also found that digital marketing skills are paramount, with CMO salaries rising with higher levels of performance.

The study also found most CMOs are likely to have a disappointing upcoming year, with 84 per cent surveyed saying their compensation is tied to business performance in 2020.
