Sunday TV Wrap: Women’s T20 World Cup Final Pulls Over Half A Mil On 9Gem, As Viewers Question Programming Decision

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup pulled a decent 531,000 viewers last night on 9Gem, according to OzTAM metro numbers.

Running at the same time as ratings hit Married at First Sight, the final, which saw the Aussies beat India on International Women’s Day no less, was screened on Nine’s secondary channel, 9Gem. Some viewers took to social media to vent their frustration over what they deemed a “snub” of the women’s cricket final.

B&T reached out to Nine to ask about the programming decision, and a spokesperson said: “Just as with the men’s and women’s Ashes and men’s ODI World Cup last year, we have aired the women’s T20 World Cup on GEM and GEM HD, to keep it all in the same place and not switch shows around which causes confusion.

“Given the men’s Ashes last year achieved the highest multichannel ratings of all time, it is the perfect home for cricket on Nine.”

In other news, MKR pulled its lowest audience number in the history of the Australian show, with 395,000 viewers tuning in. Over at 10, Dancing with the Stars did 352,000, and was 10’s best of the night.
