Following weeks of speculation, it’s been confirmed Donald Trump has bought an ad slot during the Super Bowl 2020 as part of his re-election campaign.

The news follows democrat leader Michael Bloomberg’s announcement that he’s bought a 60-second ad spot during the game to the sweet tune of $10 million ($AU14.5m).

Bloomberg’s campaign team said the commercial spot was planned to counter Trump’s presence at the game and to “get under [his] skin”.

Campaign spokesman for Bloomberg Michael Frazier said: “When the Trump campaign decided to run an ad during the big game, the Bloomberg campaign responded by buying a spot.

“Mike is taking the fight to Trump.”

As the 2020 presidential election campaign ramps up, its believed up to $20 billion ($AU29b) will be spent on advertising.

Details about the advertisements the candidates plan to run at the Super Bowl this year are currently undisclosed.
