Burger King Recreates “Joker Staircase” & Has A Jolly Old Swipe At Macca’s In The Process

Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has fast become one of the most iconic films of our time and its most iconic scene has to be Arthur Fleck – in full costume and make-up – dancing down a flight of stairs to (convicted paedophile) Gary Glitter’s Rock and Roll Part 2.

Such is the scene’s infamy, fans of the film have been flocking to the staircase – situated in New York’s Bronx district – to recreate their very own version for social media.

Not that the local Bronx residents have been too impressed by the huge influx of tourists to their neighbourhood.

Now Burger King is showing support for the locals by offering a free Whopper via delivery service Uber Eats to anyone who lives in the Bronx.

The promotion includes social, print and the video below:

The campaign’s called “King Stairs” and is the work of Burger King’s incumbent creative agency David. Oddly, via its Madrid office.

And, as any good Burger King campaign has done lately, the spot clearly couldn’t resist a perfectly targeted potshot at its arch-enemy McDonald’s.

The print campaign includes the line, “Dear Bronx, we know clowns can be annoying”. More a swipe at Ronald McDonald than Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck.
