Power Outage Wreaks Chaos At The ABC

The ABC’s website has been thrown into disarray, with a power outage at the Ultimo headquarters causing website crashes and glitches.

The issue first appeared this morning, with the main ABC website, the ABC News app and some broadcast services crashing.

At one point, the ABC news homepage was down completely, while articles still worked via URL, but were on display in 2011 format.

For other users, the entire website reverted back to 2011, displaying stories with headlines like ‘Turning Japanese in 2011-12’.

The national broadcaster released a statement just before 11:30am, blaming the issues on a power outage.

“We’re experiencing technical difficulties this morning caused by power fluctuations from our supplier overnight which impacted some of our systems,” said ABC NEWS Digital managing editor Grant Sherlock in a note to subscribers.

“We’re working to get things back to normal as fast as possible and apologise for the disruption to service.”

There were also issues with the TV broadcast, with one Twitter user pointing out this rather funny blooper.

The news website was still down at the time this article was published.
