Wavemaker AU Retains Vodafone Media Account As Carat Wins Globally

London, England - January 13, 2012: A sign outside a Vodafone shop in Central London. Vodafone, founded in 1984 as Racal Telecom Ltd., executed the UK's first mobile phone call just after midnight on the 1st January in 1985.

WPP’s Wavemaker Australia has retained Vodafone’s media account as Dentsu Aegis’ Carat has won the estimated $AU742M global media account.

B&T can confirm Wavemaker who currently hold Vodafone’s media account in Australia is unaffected by the global agency move.

A Vodafone spokesperson confirmed to B&T: “Vodafone will continue to work with Team Red in Australia.”

WPP declined to comment.

In 2016 Vodafone Australia moved its media planning and buying business from Bohemia to GroupM’s Wavemaker to align with global ‘Team Red’ arrangements.

Looking globally, Wavemaker won Vodafone’s media account in 2014 as MEC, prior to the Maxus merger.

While Vodafone already does much of its digital planning and buying in-house, the telco brand wanted to appoint one agency globally (bar Australia) to handle the rest of its media operations.
