Wednesday TV Wrap: ABC Accidentally Airs Wrong Episode Of ‘Mad As Hell’

The ABC was left red-faced last night after it accidentally aired an old version of Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell.

Viewers were left with an eerie sense of déjà vu after the public broadcaster re-ran last week’s show by mistake rather than the new episode recorded on Tuesday.

The ABC hasn’t explained how the mishap occurred but has said the new episode will screen on its catch-up service iview.

Micallef fans were quick to call-out the blunder on social media last night. “What’s with the repeat? I have no life and been looking forward to this for a week!” penned one. While another added: “On a positive note, @ABCTV airing the wrong episode of #Madashell means it has overtaken MasterChef in Twitter trends probably for the first time in ever. And it was an intense Masterchef too with the final five cooking in George Calombaris’ restaurant. It’s quite an achievement!”

Not that the mishap seriously dented its audience numbers. Some 495,000 viewers tuned in to watch the repeat according to OzTAM metro numbers.

However, the night belonged to Seven. It took home 27.4 per cent of the audience share (all channels). Nine was second with 24.4 per cent, 10 was oh-so-close behind with 22.6 per cent, the ABC did 16.6 per cent and SBS had a neat nine.

10’s top night was due to MasterChef (719,000), The Project (510,000) and My Life Is Murder (482,000).

Seven’s night ran thus: 6pm news (1.16 million), Home And Away (677,000), The Chase (661,000), Border Security (521,000) and The Force (481,000).

Nine did well with its 6pm news (894,000), ACA (734,000), Hot Seat (517,000) and Young Sheldon (459,000).

In the battle for breakfast, Sunrise (286,000) beat Today (191,000).

Over at the ABC, Anh’s Brush With Fame (664,000) was its most watched show of the night followed by its 7pm news (632,000) and 7.30 (590,000).

SBS’ best was 24 Hours In Emergency with 179,000.
