Roger Federer (& A Robot) Star In Latest Campaign And, Mercifully, It’s Not Utterly Horrendous

When it comes to prodigiously hitting a ball over a net and general all-round good guy status, Roger Federer is without peer.

That, however, can’t be said of some his recent acting and advertising efforts.

Last month the 37-year-old Swiss ace starred in an an ad for budget fashion retailer Uniqlo which, it had to be said, was truly dreadful. He then backed it up for a campaign for pasta maker Barilla that wasn’t much better.

That leads us to Rodge’s latest work for Swiss coffee appliance maker JURA and, B&T’s happy to report, it appears a marked improvement on his recent efforts.

The storyline follows Federer into the future with his robot who tries to offer him a coffee made from a pod. He then rejects it by unleashing his famous forehand and turns to his new JURA ENA8 automated coffee machine, made using freshly ground coffee, not capsulated.

Commenting on the ad, the 20-time grand slam champ agreed with B&T’s sentiment that acting definitely wasn’t his forte.

“Yeah it was good fun, I really enjoyed it, you know it was something different,” he said of the ad.

“Shooting for JURA is always fun and super organised as you can imagine. Interacting with a robot; it was great, honestly and it was super well done. I know I’m not an actor, I know I’m a tennis player you’ve got to know where your strengths are and I know it’s with tennis and not with acting.”
