Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Slammed For Myanmar Trip: “Stop Spreading Fake News”
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is being slammed on the platform after spruiking a trip to Myanmar for his birthday, though failing to mention the Rohingya genocide currently gripping the country.
In a stream of tweets posted to Dorsey’s account yesterday, the CEO thanked Myanmar and called it a “beautiful country”.
Myanmar is an absolutely beautiful country. The people are full of joy and the food is amazing. I visited the cities of Yangon, Mandalay, and Bagan. We visited and meditated at many monasteries around the country. pic.twitter.com/wMp3cmkfwi

He also suggested how to get to the country in a follow-up tweet.
And if you’re willing to travel a bit, go to Myanmar: https://t.co/9qKm78uq7o

Now, Dorsey is receiving a heap of criticism, with Twitter users even accusing him of “spreading fake news”.
Did you actually see that kids were thrown in the fire? Have you any video evidence to prove your claims? Stop spreading fake news if you cannot prove them!

Also… full of genocide. But glad you had a nice trip!

Hello @jack, bewildered that You seem unaware of the plight of a million Rohingya's over the last year, with a blanket statement of 'Myanmar – Full of joy & amazing food' Take a look at @AlexCrawfordSky report & then use your platform consciously. https://t.co/CDJxjiM4Eh
— neville lazarus (@nevilleskynews) December 10, 2018
Why don’t you visit the dark side Myanmar where the ethnic cleansing is happening and say it is beautiful.
— Deeq Adde (@Garacad) December 10, 2018
What complicates Dorsey’s trip to Myanmar, even more, are the claims the government organised the Rohingya genocide through social media platforms including Twitter.
As per Gizmodo, “The UN (as well as independent reporting) found that Myanmar military officials coordinated the genocide in large part on one of Twitter’s fellow social media companies, Facebook.
“As noted by the New York Times, one of the tactics the military used on Facebook was spreading propaganda on its Messenger platform warning that “jihad attacks” committed by Muslims were imminent.
“At the same time, it flooded Muslim groups with messages warning nationalist Buddhist monks were about to launch violent protests.”
Dorsey is yet to respond to the criticism.
