Redundancy Wave Hits News Corp’s State Marketing Teams

Publishing giant News Corp Australia has confirmed it has made several roles redundant across its state marketing teams.

B&T understands the job cuts were made across News Corp’s NSW and South Australian marketing teams, but the actual number of roles made redundant is unclear.

A News Corp spokesperson told B&T a number of changes to its state marketing teams were announced internally this week and follows the restructure of the publisher’s group marketing function a month ago.

“The changes at a state level are designed to align roles and responsibilities to those at a group level,” the spokesperson said.

“Unfortunately, this has resulted in a small number of roles being made redundant. The roles made redundant are not senior positions.”

The restructure of the News Corp’s group marketing function included trade marketing being moved under the umbrella of national sales managing director Lou Barrett, and former NewsMediaWorks marketing director Charlie Murdoch being appointed to lead the division.

Last month, it was reported that News Corp was looking to reduce costs with a round of redundancies across its Aussie mastheads, including The Australian, the Herald Sun and The Daily Telegraph.
