UK Newspaper Wrongly Reports Death Of Prince Philip

UK’s The Daily Telegraph yesterday published a rather odd and incomplete article online announcing the death of Prince Phillip as the still very breathing Duke of Edinburgh prepared for his final day of public engagements.

The online article read: “The Duke of Edinburgh, the longest-serving consort to a monarch in British history, has died at the age of XX, Buckingham Palace has announced.

“Prince Philip, whom the Queen described as her ‘strength and stay’ during her record-breaking reign, passed away XXXXXXX

“FILL IN DETAILS

“He will be given a royal ceremonial funeral in line with his wishes, which is expected to take place in seven days’ time.”

The piece gave details of the Duke’s funeral, as well as discussing his health and life.

It was initially spotted by Guardian writer Rhiannon Cosslett, who tweeted that it was a “Royal f*ck up”.

How the unfortunate obituary made it online was anyone’s guess, however, The Daily Telegraph was quick with its apology. A spokesperson said: “We sincerely apologise for the mistake that was made this morning, which was of course rectified immediately. We will be reviewing our publishing processes as a matter of urgency.”
