Air New Zealand Pips Qantas For Title Of World’s Best Airline

Qantas has been named the world’s second best airline, beaten into the number one spot by Air New Zealand.

Admittedly, the rankings are done by Aussie-based website airlineratings.com, so may throw-up some national prejudices. Qantas ranked fourth last year.

This is the the fourth year in a row the Kiwi carrier has snared the number one position in a poll called the 2017 Airline Excellence Awards that asks respondents to rank their experience across things like catering, cabin crews, service and entertainment.

According to the poll of international travellers, these are the world’s best airlines:

1. Air New Zealand

2. Qantas

3. Singapore Airlines

4. Cathay Pacific

5. Virgin Atlantic/Virgin Australia

6. British Airways

7. Etihad Airways

8. All Nippon Airways

9. Eva Air

10. Lufthansa

Air New Zealand, who’s found fame for its funny inflight videos, was praised for its economy class service, its financial performance, treatment of staff and environmental leadership. Interestingly most of the top 10 airlines came from the Asia/Pacific, with only one from the middle east (Etihad at seven) and one from Europe (Lufthansa at 10).
