Do Lectures Australia Prepares For Its Second Coming

The Do Lectures, featured in The Guardian as one of the world’s “Top 10 ideas festivals”, is returning to Australian shores for the second time in March 2015.

Successfully operating in Wales since 2009 and the United States since 2011, Do Lectures Australia is looking to build upon and “one-up” its first Australian foray in April of this year.

The intimate festival has been described as “TED meets Burning Man meets Where the Wild Things Are”. It offers 70 attendees and twenty speakers the opportunity to spend four days in the wild fuelled by great local food, live music, moving speeches and the stunning surrounds of Payne’s Hut, situated in the upper reaches of the Mitta River in North East Victoria.

Founded by former AMV BBDO copywriter David Hieatt and his wife Clare, the Do Lectures has played host to many of the world’s most famous radical thinkers: from Tim Berners-Lee to Wieden+Kennedy London’s creative director Tony Davidson; from Kickstarter’s Perry Chen to Wired UK’s deputy editor Ben Hammersley. Earlier this year, Do Lectures Wales witnessed an amazing talk from Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood.

According to David Hieatt, the idea behind Do Lectures is simple: “people who Do things can inspire the rest of us to go and Do things, too. So each year we invite a set of people down here to come and tell us what they Do”.

Do Lectures encourages people to act, to think and to create. It’s not about self-help. Do Lectures is about action and success.

“Do brings together an eclectic bunch of people and, during a few days of magic, an incredible community flares up. They take life to a deeper level. They help you release the handbrake in your mind. And there is a moment when you realise that you don’t have to do all this work alone, because you are connected to each other now,” said Ross Hill, CoTap.

Do Lectures Australia will host their second event in March 2015, and are thrilled to welcome the first round of impressive speakers: Annie Parker – an energetic, down- to-earth, highly productive and strategic investor, startup advisor and founder of Code Club Australia and at Telstra’s highly successful business accelerator Muru-D. Connie Johnson – co-founder of the Love Your Sister initiative that in 12 months went to over 200,000 Facebook fans, raising over $1.6M for breast cancer and broke a world record. Tamsin Carvin – a person who has founded the perfect package of food, land, style and living in Tamsin’s Table. Nicholas Gruen – the talented and experienced Australian economist with the insight, wisdom, and networks to see unique patterns around productive systems. Lisa Messenger – a woman who reinvents herself for the fun and thrills, making it work every time, a true ‘Renegade’ of the new age.

There’s always something enthralling about a Do speaker. They have a fascinating life, interesting stories and a knack to bring about change in systems that contribute to many others. Come and learn tips for success and see an exceptional four-day- business-life-dinner-party for yourself.
