“Villainous Women Fiction!” Clementine Ford Slams Sunrise For Amber Heard Coverage

Feminist Clementine Ford has slammed Seven’s Sunrise for the show’s recent coverage of actress Amber Heard.

The saga kicked off because Sunrise had US commenter Cooper Lawrence on to discuss Heard.

Heard has recently spoken out after losing in the defamation case lodged against her by her former husband and movie star Johnny Depp. To give you some context,  Heard had written an op’d for the Washington Post in 2016.  In the piece, she wrote about being a victim of domestic violence. She didn’t name Depp in the piece, but Depp decided to sue her for defamation.

The trial was then televised and although Depp admitted to having broken things and being destructive during fights and there were recordings of Depp calling Heard a “fat ass,” and “Filthy whore!”

Depp’s team won the case and Heard released a statement that said: “I’m disappointed about what this verdict means for other women.”

Any situation where domestic violence allegations have been made is tough to navigate. But Lawrence used her platform on Sunrise to criticise Heard. “I think she’s on the ‘you need to listen to me tour.” She said.

According to news.com.au Lawrence went on to say, “Remember they had divorced in 2017, things were over, she said I want him to move on.

“I want to move on, but then she wrote this article and she’s been poking the bear ever since because she still wants him in her life even if it’s in a negative way … They do have a toxic relationship and she clearly wants to continue it,”

Ford took to Twitter to call out the show: she wrote, “Why is Sunrise so invested in wheeling out people to continually pile on to a woman who has already had 12 out of 14 allegations of domestic abuse against her agreed within a UK court? Why is it so important to them that their viewers be fed the villainous woman fiction?”

Obviously, morning shows have people on all the time to discuss their opinions but was this the right move by Sunrise?
