B&T’s Tokyo Olympics Wrap: Knitting, COVID-19 And Cockroaches!
The Tokyo Olympics has it all. Winners, losers and even cockroaches!
The only thing the Olympics can’t seem to do is avoid the pandemic. German cyclist Simon Geschke tested positive for COVID-19 and unfortunately, he isn’t the only athlete that has come down with the virus.
According to ABC, at least 20 athletes have contracted COVID-19 during this Olympics.
Geschke took to Twitter, to document his journey.
In the official Quarantine Hotel of the #Tokyo2020 games. Locked windows, leaving the room only 3 times a day, speaker on the roomceiling to wake you up at 7am to check your temperature. Fair to say that this is (hopefully) the closest i will ever get to being in prison.

In bizarre news, a cameraman made an odd, artistic decision when they decided to stop filming the Olympics and focus on a cockroach.
The moment happened on the TyC Sports channel.
The cameramen ceased filming a women’s field hockey match between Argentina and Spain and instead did a close-up shot of a cockroach just walking along.
The cockroach wasn’t even being particularly interesting, just walking.
Naturally, Twitter lost its mind.

In an act of sheer fabulousness, CNN presenter Brianna Keiler did not hold back when she called out Piers Morgan’s recent criticism of gymnast Simone Biles, live on air.
Morgan had previously taken to Twitter to criticise Biles – after she pulled out of the Olympics team event.
Keiler, said: “On Twitter, Piers Morgan, whose only athletic claim to fame is that he ran off the set of his former TV show simply because another host questioned his criticism of Meghan Markle complained,
“Are ‘mental health issues’ now the go-to excuse for any poor performance in elite sport?”
Keiler did not mince her words, and Twitter was here for it.

UK diver, Tom Daly reminded everyone what a multi-tasker he is, when he was spotted knitting at the Olympics games.
Daly, who just won his first gold medal, now seems to be turning knitting into an Olympic sport.
The diver was working on his knitting while he watched the springboard final, almost as if he has somehow become even more British, after winning gold.
Naturally, Twitter was excited.
Just seen champion diver Tom Daly knitting . My weekend is complete. #skills

In heartwarming news, Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim and Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi have decided to share a gold medal, instead of continuing to compete against each other.
Barshim and Tamberi are friends outside of the sport and when the long jumpers found themselves with the choice between a tiebreaker and sharing the gold, they chose to share.
They were both elated. Their undeniable joy is definitely what the Olympics should be about.

However, not everyone was on their best behaviour, French boxer Mourad Aliev protested after being defeated.
Aliev was disqualified after he head-butted his opponent, UK boxer Frazer Clarke in the super heavyweight quarter-final.
However, Aliev was not impressed when the verdict was announced. He spat out his mouthguard, kicked the air and shoved a camera, which sounds a lot like a tantrum.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the disqualified boxer then sat ringside for about an hour in protest, which may have been more effective if there were games after his match.
Aliev didn’t inconvenience anyone but himself.
We don’t know what is sadder, being a sore loser or being incompetent at protesting.

The Olympics really does excel at providing entertainment that has nothing to do with sports.
